Shortly after graduating from college, Ryan LaVigne joined Toms River Fire Company No. 2, volunteering as a firefighter for more than 4 years now.
“Joining the fire department has opened many doors for me from a career perspective,” said Ryan. “I was able to take classes at the fire academy that helped me meet requirements for my current job as a fire inspector here in Toms River.”
Toms River Fire Department offers training and gear to its volunteers, and can lead to career opportunities like it did for Ryan.
“Don’t stop learning,” encourages Ryan. “There is so much training available to us beyond the Firefighter Level I and II – take advantage of it!”
In addition to the career and training opportunities, Ryan enjoys the camaraderie of the department.
“It has become like a second family to me,” he said.
For anyone interested in volunteering with Toms River, Ryan says, “The ideal candidate is someone who remains calm under pressure, works well in a team, and has an all-in attitude.”
If that description sounds like you, you won’t regret giving it a try!
“Joining the Toms River Fire Department was one of the best decisions I have ever made,” Ryan said. “I have seen and learned so much in my time here and I look forward to what the future has in store.”
