Growing up at a firehouse, it’s no surprise that Kyle Reid, 30, is a career firefighter and a volunteer firefighter.
A fourth-generation volunteer, Kyle started as an explorer at East Dover Fire Company in the Toms River Fire Department at 15. After graduating from high school, Kyle became a regular member and firefighter at 18.
“I always had a draw to the fire service and knew I wanted a career in it,” he said.
Kyle started as a career fireman in Neptune Fire District 1 in August 2015. In March 2023, he moved to Plainsboro Fire District, where he’s 24 hours on duty and 72 hours off duty.
When he’s off duty, Kyle is serving in his second year as First Lieutenant at East Dover Fire Company, answering calls and participating in drills and meetings.
“My favorite part is the family aspect,” said Kyle. “It’s one big family at the firehouse; everybody’s close knit with each other.”
In his free time, Kyle enjoys fishing at the beach and hunting with other guys from East Dover and Plainsboro.
To anyone considering joining the fire service, Kyle says, “Get out of your comfort zone and give it a shot. There’s a job for every person.”
