Volunteer Spotlight: John Grieble

After John Grieble graduated from high school, he immediately joined Toms River Fire Department to help those in need.

“This experience has been more than what I expected. I love going out every day and helping the community,” said John, who has been a volunteer firefighter for 10 years now.

He originally joined Toms River Fire Co. No. 1 and was with them up until two years ago when he changed residences and joined East Dover Fire Company.

Through the training he received, John learned how to stay calm under pressure, a crucial skill when responding to emergencies. Because every call has its unique set of circumstances, volunteers train regularly to hone their skills.

“Training never stops,” said John. “You’ll learn a lot, create great memories and make great friendships. Anyone who is willing to provide for their community and give up some of their time should volunteer.”

When John isn’t volunteering, he works as a cook at LongHorn Steakhouse.

No prior experience is required to join Toms River Fire Department. Training and gear are provided. Start learning something new and give back! Fill out an inquiry form here.
